Weekly Job Insight #1: June 24, 2019 - Sales tax for online retailers

Weekly Job Insight #1: June 24, 2019

I’m Steve Phillips, CPA and Principal at spFinancial Services, Inc.

PA Sales tax is due for monthly filers on the 20th of each month.

Some may have experienced the option that PA gave large online retailers for 2018. Companies were told that if they did not collect sales tax in 2018, they can either send out a letter to all of their customers suggesting that they report their sales tax for 2018, or the company can pay the sales tax.

Furthermore, some of my clients received letters from online retailers last year, which resulted in them paying the sales tax on their annual tax return.

PA’s changes to the Sales and Use Tax law become effective July 1, 2019 and state that remote sellers lacking physical presence in PA must collect sales tax when their sales are greater than $100,000 in the previous 12 months.

Anyone who has questions or knows someone with questions about PA sales tax or the law changes can contact me at 412.245.1510.
